    I want to know how they can tell when you’re downloading something that is illegal and when you’re not….
    If I own the CD, it’s not illegal to download the mp3 of it is it?

    That’s a big argument. The RIAA thinks that you’ve purchased the right to listen to the music ON THE MEDIUM IT WAS SOLD ON only. That’s how they think they can get away with distributing more and more CDs that can’t be read in computers at all. Stinks.

    My understanding of copyright laws has always been that it is on the content, the idea, the concept, etc., but not the medium. I wonder how long it will be until people have figured a way to compress DVD-A or SACD quality stuff like mp3s…
