Retention Level: 35%?!

When you guys are reading/studying, what techniques do you use to retain it. All too often I finish a book (usually non-fiction theology or inspiration) having enjoyed it but not retained much. So, I’m asking for advice.

I know we’ve had several conversations about this, but one thing that I’ll do sometimes is try to summarize the last chapter or several pages that I read as if I had to explain it to someone else. Not a paragraph or anything, just the unique ideas the author is proposing. If I can’t, I look back over it.

I also will read upside down sometimes. All the blood goes to my brain so that it has plenty of healthy oxygen for remembering the things that I read.
This is counterproductive, however, if I pass out since I’ll usually forget everything when that happens.

I find that when i read upside down, i always get the chronology of stuff messed up…i learn it backwards.
