I listened to this while driving over Thanksgiving vacation. I have mixed opinions on Philip Yancey’s books, but I enjoyed this one. It wasn’t amazingly insightful or challenging, but it did spur me on to want to read the Old Testament more often. The book takes you alongside Philip Yancey as he struggled through reading the prophets, wisdom and other parts of the Old Testament. I identified with several of his original objections (for example, the prophetic books are hard to read, all sound the same and they’re weird). He shines some new light on the Old Testament, and accomplishes his goal of pushing the reader on to dive into the Old Testament more.
