Turns out all it does is pull the songs off like the iPod is a drive and converts the filenames back to names that make sense. You could pull off songs before, but they were hidden and the filenames were hashed.

I think it might be time to get an iPod now.

  3. Stephen Mann says:

all your music in one place. songs at your fingertips for a buck each. “the system?” come on.

plus, i don’t think apple will really care. they have about 80% market share and needed to have some sort of security in place so they wouldn’t get sued. they probably really don’t care what you do with your songs–as long as you buy them from ITunes.

It will be interesting to see if Apple starts to compete with Rhapsody and Napster for the subscription market. Rhapsody and Napster both now have $15/month plans that let you listen all you want on your (compatible) portable device. Guess what non-compatible device has the most market share? Yep…iPod.

  5. El Gray says:

This kinda makes me want an iPod, just so I can FIGHT THE SYSTEM.
