Should the 27 year old stripper who brought rape/assault charges against the Duke Lacrosse team (that appear to be wrong) be punished?

If you haven’t heard about it, a stripper accused three members of the Duke Lacrosse team of raping and beating her. Members of the team were tested and it appears they are all innocent. If that is the case, should she be punished? If so, with what?

Yes. Filing a false police report.
But…just like it was wrong to rush to judgment as to the guilt of the members of the lacrosse team, we should excercise restraint on this. Remember, it’s not that the players’ DNA didn’t match DNA that was found, the report is that investigators didn’t find DNA on her at all. There were signs of sexual trauma – just couldn’t find any DNA.

I tried to leave a possibility that the results were inconclusive. I didn’t know they couldn’t locate DNA on her…what were they testing against if that was the case?

btw, if anyone has read some in depth (or even what they would consider “good”) articles on this online, please post the URL.

btw – I didn’t think you were rushing to judgment. I was more responding to the general public’s reaction when this story initially broke. The way you approached it here was quite fair.

Unfortunately, the racial implications of this case are enormous. Whatever evidence is presented, this will be proof to some that white kids with money can do anything they want and get away with it and proof to others that the race card trumps anything than can be proven in a court of law. Life will never be the same again for anyone involved. The whole thing is a terrible situation.

You can find a copy of the indictment issued by the grand jury here:

If they’re really innocent, the charge could be First Degree Golddigging…
