Irony

Well, it happened.

One of my card numbers has been compromised.  There was a charge for $9.40 from "HBS" in California.  When I googled the 888 number that was with the transaction, I found posts of dozens of people with charges from "HBS" for the same amount.  Irony of ironies, the vendor that everyone had in common was Equifax, hired to protect our credit.  Needless to say, if you subscribe to any Equifax services, check your credit/checking account history and keep a close eye on it in the future.

The comments in the forums I’ve read suggest a very large card number "sale" to marketing companies that have begun to take liberties with the card numbers.

I had the same thing happen to me with a California-based company for the same amount about 3 years ago. Luckily my credit card company challenged the charge and they removed it.
