The increasing difficulty of finding out anything (in American politics).

Those of you who follow politics closely, help me out here.  Below is a link to today’s Roll Call 674.  This, known in the news as the “bailout deal”, has been covered more than much I can remember in the recent past.  Mark sent me a link to the votes today and I noticed the official (according to clerk.house.gov) bill title:

“To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide earnings assistance and tax relief to members of the uniformed services, volunteer firefighters, and Peace Corps volunteers, and for other purposes”

Awesome.  That helps.  That explains it.  So anyone who voted against this:

  1. Doesn’t want to amend tax code
  2. Doesn’t want to provide earnings assistance or tax relief to members of the uniformed services
  3. Doesn’t want to provide earnings assistance or tax relief to volunteer firefighters
  4. Doesn’t want to provide earnings assistance or tax relief to Peace Corps volunteers

(Makes writing the smear campaign ads look ridiculously simple…and I thought my trust for those ads couldn’t get any lower)

Seriously though, how do these not get better titles?  Anyone?  A $700 Billion plan shouldn’t just get “tacked on” to something else.  Or maybe I’m way out of touch.

In other news, www.house.gov is down.

  1. Mark says:

I think it’s because most politicians think the majority of Americans are idiots.

There’s a reason I don’t trust the government and this is a prime example of why: they’re deceptive.

“A government that is big enough to give you all you want is big enough to take it away.”
Barry Goldwater (US Senator from Arizona, 1950’s and 60’s)

  2. …just another reason I refuse to vote this year. I have absolutely no faith in our government and its politicians.
