You spin me right round…

I don’t even know where to start with this.  If you haven’t seen it, it is Rick Pino (a modern charismatic worship leader) essentially leading a rave/”worship”/80’s sing along/square dance (3:50) service.  Is this where relevancy gets us?  His last phrase in the video confirms ALL of my suspicions.

  1. We love the Lordy? Is that what he says?

  2. DrLidbom says:

    Sounds like it to me.

  3. evan says:

i’m hoping that this isn’t really their worship time, but more of a fun “warm up” session that groups often do before conferences, summits, etc.

at any rate, the girl’s expression @3:40 was one of terror and confusion.

  4. DrLidbom says:

Even if it is a “warm up” it still bothers me.

    A lot.

  5. evan says:

I don’t disagree, but I’m curious what Biblical references you think apply here.

  6. DrLidbom says:

I don’t know where to start, because it’s a difficult foundational problem rather than a simple “prohibited by Scripture” problem. Kind of like you asking me how to organize your garage when all of the stuff you have in it should be thrown out.

I think the church at large has almost completely lost the idea of reverence in worship. I see a guy leading a concert in a room, getting people “fired up”, “having fun”, etc. I don’t think the word fun (in the sense it is usually used) should be part of what people think of when they truly worship.
